What the DOT 5 Panel Tests For

The DOT 5 panel screens for the five drug classes required by federal regulation:

  • Marijuana (THC metabolite)
  • Cocaine (benzoylecgonine)
  • Amphetamines: amphetamine, methamphetamine, MDMA, and MDA
  • Opioids: codeine, morphine, heroin metabolite (6-AM), hydrocodone, hydromorphone, oxycodone, and oxymorphone
  • Phencyclidine (PCP)

DOT Test Types We Handle

  • Pre-employment: a verified negative result is required before a driver performs safety-sensitive duties
  • Random: compliant collections for your random testing program
  • Post-accident: fast response when timing matters
  • Reasonable suspicion
  • Return-to-duty and follow-up

Turnaround Times

  • Negative results: typically [24-48 hours] after the laboratory receives the specimen, once reviewed by the MRO
  • Non-negative results: typically [2-5 business days], because the lab confirms the result and the MRO contacts the donor before verifying

Turnaround begins when the laboratory receives the specimen, and weekends and holidays can add time.

What to Expect at Your Appointment

  1. Book online or call us. Tell us the test type and the location.
  2. Bring a valid photo ID. Collectors must verify identity before every DOT collection.
  3. Your employer's information. Have the company name and Designated Employer Representative (DER) contact ready.
  4. Collection. The collector explains the process, checks the specimen temperature, and seals the specimen in front of you. A split specimen (Bottle A and Bottle B) is collected.
  5. Results. The lab reports to the MRO, who verifies the result and reports it to your employer.

The visit usually takes about [15-20 minutes]. Very dilute specimens or a failure to provide enough urine can require a recollection, so please do not drink excessive fluids beforehand.

Additional Fees (Only If They Apply)

Most appointments cost exactly what is listed above. These fees apply only in the situations described, and we will tell you before any of them is charged.

  • Wait time: a 15-minute grace period is included. After that, $15 per 15 minutes while we wait for the donor.
  • Shy bladder (insufficient specimen): DOT procedures allow up to 3 hours and fluids for the donor to provide a specimen. Collector time during an extended wait is billed at $15 per 15 minutes (after the grace period), for up to the 3 hours DOT allows. The observed second collection that DOT requires in this situation has no extra observer fee. If the donor still cannot provide a specimen, the employer arranges the required medical evaluation, which is billed separately by the physician.
  • Directly observed collection: federal rules require a same-gender observer in certain cases, such as return-to-duty and follow-up tests, or when circumstances call for it. Observer fee: $45.
  • Dispatch within 1 hour: need a collector fast? Priority dispatch fee: $50.
  • Late cancellation or no-show: free to cancel or reschedule with 2 hours' notice. After that, $50.
  • Outside Pasco or Hillsborough County: call us for a travel quote.

If a recollection is needed because of a mistake on our end, you will not be charged again.
