To satisfy government requirements, the test must be conducted by an AABB-accredited laboratory and collected under strict official protocols.
Step 1: Receiving the Request
USCIS or the U.S. Embassy issues a Request for Evidence (RFE) or paperwork suggesting a DNA test. You must work with an accredited facility; self-purchased kits are strictly rejected.
Step 2: Sample Collection Setup

For the Sponsor (in the U.S.): An appointment is scheduled at an approved collection facility. The collector verifies identity (passport or government ID), takes a photo, and performs a cheek swab.

For the Beneficiary (Abroad): The AABB-accredited lab ships a collection kit directly to the designated U.S. Embassy or Consulate. The beneficiary attends an appointment at the embassy, where an authorized official or panel physician collects the cheek swab.
Step 3: Chain of Custody & Testing
All samples are shipped directly back to the AABB lab via secure tracking. Once processed, the lab sends the certified results directly to USCIS or the Embassy. To maintain chain of custody integrity, results are never handed directly to the family.
